Hello Guys. This is my favorite of all the consoles! I got it from Charles here. It doesn't run it needs a recap and a very thorough going through. I am saving it for when I am better at doing restorations I am starting this thread but it will be very long term prolly 5 years from now.I did get it going once but it sounded very strange and I was really worried about a fire or some kind of damage. On Ebay I had been looking at a set of amps that I am pretty sure are a match for it. So I purchased them. It was a lot but I have not seen a set before and I know I will need parts for mine. They arrived today, amp179 it said but I am pretty sure its a Amp 148 and its mate an Amp 150. But I need to make sure so take a look and see if you recognize them. They look identical to the ones I have.

I can see that one of your amps--the left one in the photo--has been recapped already (can't tell about the filter electrolytics).

I'm so happy that the Concert Grand went to a good home and that it will be restored to it's former greatness! I knew I would never get around to the restoration myself. I have no doubt that Aaron will get it done! Now I need to find a home for the 1965 Fisher Ambassador VII that I'm not going to get around to!

Hello guys. I think I will try and see the Amp numbers today to verify what they are. There is evidence that the console has had problems in the past. the (electrolytics ?) have a weird thing, some kind of repair.

Looks like it was a dual-section electrolytic that the repair person could not find an exact replacement for, so they used part of the original can to hold the two replacements--ones that were larger than the current options, so the can could not be "re-stuffed."

Using Nichicon PZ series caps will allow you to restuff a four-section cap commonly found on Magnavox chassis. These caps utilize 5MM bodies, so they are skinnier than your normal caps. Buy radial lead PZ's and you are all set. I also like using at least 500 volt electrolytics in Magnavox power supplies. Magnavox chassis with that gray hammertone finish were distinctive in apprearance.

For frugal cheapskates like me, restuffing the old cans or hiding new caps under the chassis is much cheaper, and if done carefully, leaves the device looking stock.

I gotta say , I like the styling of this maggie... as popular as the 50's sets are to collectors , I was never a fan of the center turntable being mounted under the receiver that you almost have to get on your knees to play records ...stupid design.. IMO but to each his own,,,,

I much prefer "top loading" the contorl panel as well as the record playe - better ergonomics.

I too prefer to put multi-section caps individually under the chassis to save $$ if there's room to do so. The new multis from AES and the like are about $50 with shipping... fugeddaboudit!
