Hats, or if you will, chapeaux

I'll move this topic away from '57 Buicks to its own heading. In my Dad's closet we found some hats. The felt one indicates inside, "Scott & Co., by appointment to Her Majesty the Queen, hatmakers." 1 Old Bond Street, Picadilly. It was imported by The English Shop, Vancouver. The straw boater was my grandfather's. Not exactly comfortable to wear.

Boaters were so typical of summer wear about 1910 to '30s. I've seen a pic of my Grandfather wearing one at the beach S of Boston about 1922, also wearing a white shirt, tie, and long pants! So glad we're not so formal now!

Boaters were summer hats and men were told when they were in season: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_Hat_Riot

I bought one for a Kentucky Derby day party. I wear it a couple times a year.

That fedora is a high quality hat. Bet it'd clean up nicely. I stopped in a millinery in London. They really keep tradition alive. Clothes there are impeccable.

Both hats live in their hat boxes.

I have a couple of pictures of my great uncle wearing a boater. He was the snappy dresser of the family.
