It looks like a Conquest, but the tone arm doesn't look quite right. It says "deluxe" on it, not Imperial. What am I missing?

Take a look at the controls. They are the higher style like the modern Imperial changers had. Did some one change them? Did someone change the tone arm? Is this a miss match of parts from the factory for a non Maggie console? Questions that we may never know the answers too.

I'd bet a dollar to a doughnut that it's a Magnavox. I wonder if it was like a store brand that Magnavox rebadged at their factory.

AMC was a merchandising co-op of better Dept. stores that put that name on the bought-in products that they sold. Hutzler Bros Dept. stores in Baltimore sold Magnavox consoles and other electronics under the AMC name.

I have a small Columbia console that was built by Magnavox. I actually found the Sam's for it under Magnavox. 12" woofers, four tweeter, and single ended 6BQ5's. It has one of the versions of a Conquest changer.

I wonder if Magnavox ever re-badged a Concert Grand or an Imperial? Or just their smaller stereos.

It is just a guess, but I would bet magnavox lines were also busy building contracts for other brands besides their own .... as far as the big concert grands or imperials ? one would think that magnavox kept that design exclusively to themselves...

Magnavox traditionally held their cards close to the vest. I'm surprised they sold re-badged instruments that looked so much like the instruments they sold under their own name. You had to be a Magnavox distributor to get in on the "good stuff" with Magnavox. They didn't pass out information to mere dealers and service personnel like RCA and Zenith did.

I had to coax a schematic for the '51 Maggie out of them; it wasn't available anywhere else. By the time I was asking, it was antique anyway so they sent me a schematic.

Sherwood, the Chicago hi-fi component company, may have been the worst offender but for a good reason. They made lots of design changes in each model, mostly matters of engineering and not so much driven by cost cutting. The schematics tend to be rather general guides to what you'll actually find inside.

I did a lot of "guesstimation" when I went thru the Stereo Theater radio tuner, that's for sure.
