Several years ago, I picked up one of those without the radio.

They are an Oriental puzzle box to take apart, ha !

After servicing the changer, it had a nice sound.

Wow, Elton, that does look a lot like the GE I have been playing with and needing the speaker for. I wonder who copied who.

I would submit for your consideration that GE may have been first with the "Trimline" style of stereo. They made them in the tube days. Have we found any other manufacturers that made then with tubes? Most of that style you see by other manufacturers are solid state, are they not? Just thinking out loud.....

A friend in college had a Sylvania portable in similar style in 1969. Like cars, electronics have their look-alike eras. My friend's sounded pretty good, and I let him borrow a record once. I was very picky about that because I had a Dual 1009 with a Shure cartridge and didn't want my discs ground up on lesser devices. Sylvania had a period when they were making some pretty good electronics.

I serviced one of these for a friend about 15 years ago. It's basically a console in a big heavy suitcase. The sound was excellent for a portable.

Chris, my buddy from HIgh School and later college had a Sylvania portable too. No radio, but it was powerful and sounded great. It had a Dual changer and a Shure magnetic cartridge. Bass, treble, balance, and volume plus 3 toggle switches that I can't remember what they did. I guess I should check Mr. Google and see if I can find a photo of it.

That Phonola I picked up is a tube set , but I don't think it was made to be portable
