They had 75 cars there, mostly from an East Valley car club, of which I'm a member. They had live country music, all local artists, sponsored by 94.1 KRDE "The Ride", the most powerful country station around here, broadcast from the reservation east of here. We were #40. I saw some car I had never seen such as a '46 Studebaker, and a Studebaker pickup still running its original factory wheel covers. There was a nice '71 Ford Maverick, sold new in Phoenix, a factory V-8 and factory air car. It is the nicest one around, since it was the ONLY one around. When was the last time you saw one? There was a '63 Comet wagon there, original Arizona car, complete with sun-baked factory paint, but still a cute, unique car with a nice running "big block" 170 cid six, wearing an optimistic 429 air cleaner decal. There was a nice little '62 Falcon with a later 302 V-8, but nicely done. There was a nice '68 Plymouth GTX there, very nicely done, but it wore those horrible aftermarket wheels. There was a nicely done '58 Bel Air hardtop, but, again, it wore nasty aftermarket wheels and fake disc brake trim to cover the drum brakes. Our friends Dave and Kathy had their '70 Firebird there, powered by a 455. This was our first time at this show. The easiest car show to access and park a big Buick I've been to for awhile. We parked in a handicap parking spot. The closed the street off and was parking larger vehicles in handicap parking to give them more space. There was two '68-'69 AMC Javelins there, one a 290 car, one a 390 car. It was an absolutely perfect day for a car show. 73 degrees and sunny. The show was held on a street that ran next to a park. They blocked the street off for the show cars. The music was great and not too loud. A wonderful time was had by all. Even Bentley had a big time, sniffing butts he had not sniffed before. Lots of dogs for him to do dog things with. He found a spot under the engine in the shade and called that his "protection duty" spot..... ;)

As an aside, the Dynaflow in the Buick is not leaking. And it's not out of oil. This can't be good...... ;)

Pictures for you guys back east, shoveling snow...... ;)

I have more pictures if anyone is interested.

Nice bunch of cars, Greg, thanks for sharing. All of us back here in snow country are jealous that you are just getting your cars out and ours are put away for a long winters nap. :(

There was TWO 327 Chevy engines on the show field. One in a 1960 Biscayne and one in that little red Chevy II SS I posted a picture of. The 327 in the old '60, of course, was not the correct engine. You seldom see a 327 in anything out here. It doesn't take much to impress me sometimes. But I do have a warm spot for a 327. One of the toughest, best-performing engines per cubic inch that was ever built. Gleaner used them as combine engines for a time, as did Massey-Ferguson.

Thanks for sharing the pictures! They're the only car shows I see anymore. I liked that high hopes air cleaner on the wagon's engine. Your car looked showroom fresh again this time.
