Thanks Bill. There's no denying our Russian front suppliers have favorable pricing , but I'm a little reticent to hand over funds for things requiring 8 week delivery times 🤔

It's also interesting they loosely describe the tubes provenance ... on the one hand they are "slightly used" "test strong" only to read down and call them "NOS" ! Rather damning.

Hey Chris... I've attempted to PM you this month but they remain in my outbox.... are you set up to receive or is it something site related ?

Thanks Ken, Bobs a good friend of mine. He currently claims to only have the "a" versions which are not circuit compatible with my application.

Hey Mark ! If you're out there and see this, I received your email re tubes and sent you return mail. Perhaps check your "junk" mail box as I vow it lies somewhere within🤔

Won't 6BQ5 tubes work in place of 7189s if plate voltage is right...

Just found the PMs and replied. Other sites give me a warning about PMs.

You are correct Max... due to circuit voltage the 7189 will always sub for the EL84 but the reverse isn't always so. Also, for the same reason the 7189A doesn't always sub for the 7189. Many of the Russian military EL84s or the 6P14P, will tolerate higher plate voltages in 7189 circuits due to their physical construction as in military usage. There's claims that 6P14P variants, or those predicated with EV ER and others, are ever more robust.... not sure when "enough is enough" ? I ordered straight 6P14P matched pairs and will respond when I have had a listen. There's a newer version of this tube, subjectively claimed to me sonically superior, the EL85 M. I'll eventually get a set, but they command high prices !

Are there published specs and graphs for there new variants, comparable to those in the tube manuals?

Only place I see such is by viewing those for sale... the Russian purveyors are pretty thorough with measures, though one should consider the "grain of salt" mantra. Roger has had positive experience, and ratings are favorable. All said I'm taking a chance, better known as a "long shot" !

Bill, and others. Due to scarcity and price of the 7189I power tube, I sourced Russian EL84 equivalents of all suffixes. The 6P14P all appear new on arrival and do test very well. The price was definitely "right" ! I'm convinced these vary only by build dates and carry suffix letters to differentiate. The latest touted is the EL84 M, (the "M" presumably for "military"), whose sonics sound no different than its predecessors. I've trialed them in both Scott and Fisher amplifiers. As with most EL84 executions, the sound is subjectively "warmer" or "liquid" over the 7189 it substitutes. One man's take, YMMV !
