I think a lot of people were confused by the name, and pronunciation, which supposedly was: Mare Koor.
They should have come up with a better name imo, like Mercury xxxxx, to make it seem like a real part of the US Mercury line.

Correct German pronunciation can be odd, for Mercedes we say Mur Say Dees, in Germany it's Mairt Said Iss.
And you always pronounce the end vowels: Porshe ah.

The Ford 2.3 "Lima" engine used in U.S. Pintos, Mustangs, Rangers Thunderbirds, etc. was built in Lima Ohio.

The slightly earlier U.S. 2.0 engine used in Pintos was a German design.

You're correct, now I recall our Pinto had the 2.0 not 2.3.

So what's the consensus: remove hot, remove cold, or neither, and take it to the shop where they can extract the plugs when they break off in the head?

All I can tell you is that I was/am an ASE Master Certified Auto Repair Technician with Public Passenger, Emergency Vehicle, Heavy Truck and L-1 endorsements. I would not remove spark plugs from a hot engine. I will admit to you that, on occasion, my interpretation of "hot" differed from one time to the next. Experience would tell me what I could get by with. Aluminum heads are the most vulnerable to damage from removing the spark plugs with the heads hot. I never heard of the possibility of damaging threads removing the plugs cold.
