1960 Sylvania Portable w/Uncommon Changer

Looks good, Mr. Mogul and why can't you sell it? Please describe how the changer hangs up?

I won't sell a product that does not seem safe enough.

I detailed the amount of heat collected on the plinth.
No way to really vent it better.

The way people are unobservant nowadays, I
don't want to deal with their lack of awareness,
after selling the player to them.

The tonearm stays in the groove at the end of the last
song on records.

It's not the records, and it's not anything obvious.
Tonearm wires are supple, no binding.

I even added a bit of weight to the arm, though
as I posted earlier, it's tracking already at 6 grams.

As I posted over in record changers, that Telefunken
is clean !

Some projects just turn out this way, no big deal.

Today I decided to raise the plinth with somes small pieces of
fiberboard from the back of an old 1970s parts stereo.
Drilled some holes for the wood screws to go through.

This raised the plinth about 1/2 inch, and the heat dissipation
is much better.

The top second speaker also fits onto the cabinet w/o the spindle
hitting it.

I was mulling over WHY there is that tonearm binding.

I remembered that once out of cycle with tonearm on
its rest post, that the tonearm moves effortlessly across
the arc of the platter.

So, I think there is binding in the trip link somewhere.

I'll set this aside, due to burn out, and return to it when the
weather is cooler, maybe November, ha !

I have been thinking about your changer problem as I had a similar problem with one of my VM's. I was trying to remember what I did to fix it and if my memory is correct, I cleaned once again, the trip mechanism and that little flip thing on the slide mechanism. After that probable 5th cleaning, it worked as it should.

I have been thinking about your changer problem as I had a similar problem with one of my VM's.

Thanks for the input, Bill. That is my conclusion, also.

I will need to remove the main gear assembly.
It's similar enough to a V-M product.

Then clean again the trip pawl, trip lever, and pawl levers.

I've spent lots of time on the Sylvania/Telefunken, and time for
a break from it.
