The secret to the Uncle Doug speaker fix is to make sure the rim of the cone is saturated with service cement until the old glue is "floated" allowing the service cement to penetrate and re-establish a connection between the cone and the basket. Contact cement would work if it penetrates the old glue. Uncle Doug's method sure fixed the speaker in the Magnavox record player. I have used it extensively and at fairly high volume, and it sounds fine.

Us Southern Zonies live for winter. Fun to do things without suffering 1st degree burns from car seats and forgotten hand tools.

I've made "slightly" rubbing speakers happy by driving them facing downward, with a sinewave audio generator running @ 20 to 30Hz into a suitable power amp.

The cone excursion will be extreme, so don't overdo it. Usually takes about 15-20 minutes to fix the fixable ones.
