Re: Truetone 4DC6107 record player
Gary got me a new cartridge, so the little player sings again. Not too badly, I might add. Probably as well as it ever did. I tried a 50EH5 in place of the 50C5 and I THINK it gives a tad more volume. According to the VTVM, I'd say about two volts more at the voice coil. I found a 4X6 dual cone speaker I may try to see if that will make it sound a bit better. Life has gotten in the way of the Tolex project, so that project continues.

Re: Truetone 4DC6107 record player
I ran into a bit of a snag with my Truetone record player. I decided to try playing a 78. It would shift to the 78 position, but the platter ran at 45 rpm. Closer investigation showed two thin washers on top of the shaft with the drive tire. I removed the drive tire, then placed one of the thin washer under the drive tire, one on top. Viola! Now I have 78 rpm. Lesson learned. They put those washers there for a reason, not just because they got them cheap. I've tentatively decided to use a 4X6 speaker I have on hand. It sounds lots better with a bigger speaker.

The 4x6 speaker is not going to work. The magnet hits the motor. Back to the 4 inch one. The motor is a 110 volt model and is tapped at 85 volts to supply heater voltage. Most cheap players used a large power resistor in the heater circuit. The Amp has a cathode bypass cap as well, rather deluxe for a small amplifier.

Glad to hear of your progress !
I know it's extra work, but maybe you could add
and external speaker jack to be able to use
a better speaker when you want.
