Now I remember why we don't do this anymore

Post: # 8508Post hermitcrab »

We decided to clear out some stuff and hold a rummage sale , last time we did... the big selling stuff was anything to do with kids I.E. clothing , pack and plays etc.. this time ignored... trying to figure out what people want or are looking for is almost impossible anymore ... I lugged up some of my electronic stuff up from the basement , people were buying IMO crap... knick-knacks , wall hanging stuff , oddball tupperware stuff, my son was into the Goth look 10 years ago , that stuff went quick? the stuff I lugged up to sell , ended up being lugged back down totally ignored ... now I remember why we stopped doing this... I just about put myself in traction moving this stuff up then back down ... even stuff that worked perfectly well went to the recycle center because even second hand stores have strict guidelines on what they will take... the not accepted list might surprise you...it just confirms my thoughts that my hobby will end up in the landfill when I am gone ...just sad to think about...

It's amazing what people will buy, equally amazing at what they turn their noses up at. ;)

I think it will take a while before things return to what we have considered normal.

One option is giving stuff away. We used to have a Freecycle group here. I gave away a lot of things that weren't really in my interests but had some value. There's a "Nextdoor Neighborhood" group here and after some struggle I managed to give away a bunch of newly-rooted houseplants. I've arranged to give away a 1950s/60s Philco portable B&W TV on Videokarma (still have the Zenith console and a Philco suitcase portable and there's also a Zenith Chromacolor II that I haven't advertised much). Sometimes it's a matter of being creative.

Normal is when you go to do something and are able to do it unencumbered, unvexed, nor arrested and not think a second thought about it. :D
