That's a nice console at a reasonable price! And in California!

What happened to the tuner bezel? I've never seen one damaged like that one is.

The ad is a bidding eBay, so 98.00 is where they want you to start. Or, make an offer. Being French Provincial I wish them luck. And, where's the pair of 5U4's? With the way the tuner bezel looks it was used a lot.

There is another CG maggie listed on flea-bay as the "holy Grail" have no idea if that means rare or not ...it's full of tubes ... but is missing the back the tops the changer and he still wants 1100 bucks..
I gotta ask... what is wrong with French provincial?

Re: 1957 maggie
We have discussed the butchered Concert Grand before on this forum. It started out at almost two grand and is down to $1100, still about a thousand dollars more than It's worth. If it was closer and a LOT cheaper, I'd make a run at it. IT could be fixed, certainly, but it needs a LOT of expensive help.
I like Provincial furniture, personally. SOMEBODY or a group of somebodies decided that French Provincial was an undesirable style. The odd thing about that is that it was the most popular style when these things were new, hence more of this style remains. Kinda like old cars. Four door sedans were the most popular body style when the cars were new, yet the car collectors all want a convertible.
Oh, and let's not forget the ultimate arbiter of good taste. You don't see Moderne style furniture console stereos on Perry Mason. Most of them are French Provincial......

Re: 1957 maggie
There is nothing wrong with French Provincial, I like it and have two in that cabinet style. The Maggie Imperial and an RCA three channel that still need restoration. Some French Provincial, like Early American, got pretty over the top in add foo foo. The Maggid Imperial is tastefully done as is the RCA three channel. Greg is correct, back in the day French Provincial was in, but now everyone wants MCM. The truth be known, as long as it's free I will take any console.

Yeah, Bill, there is something about "free" that tends to eliminate our desire to be choosy.....

That is what I liked about attending auctions. I could "beat up" the owner and it wasn't frowned upon. I got the item for a price I wanted to pay, or somebody else owned it....

Re: 1957 maggie
I didn't decide to collect a certain style of cabinet or brand for that matter when I started out... I just took what I could get... curb finds, freebies from friends and coworkers
But the thing I don't care for is early american with the scallop that runs along the top... the cabinet styling is OK , it's just the scallop to me is over kill , I had a early 70's sylvania that had it... I gave that one to my son

Re: 1957 maggie
Elton, the scallop is a persona thing in Early American. My RCA ST has it, but it's a high end cabinet, made with real wood, and the scallop is done tastefully. IMHO! I have seen some that are ugly, some that are ok, and some that are done right. I still love the high end maple Early American cabinets when they are done right.
