Interesting idea; it obviously didn't take off.I was interested in the other TV ads that eBay tossed at us. Lots of high prices for old TV sets.I've been trying to give away a 1953 Zenith console TV (and a couple portables) and have no takers. Maybe the secret is to put a really high price on it and then take a lower price so the buyer thinks he or she is getting a bargain.

B&W only, 1959 color sets would be too deep due to the crt depth to do that.

Very few of the old B&W sets bring much, Predictas of course, and a small number of low production or unusual sets like this one, but otherwise many B&W sets are hard to give away even. Early under-developed mechanical sets, then starting in 1953 electronic "compatible color" FCC standard sets like RCA CTC2/CTC100 and more-or-less experimental early sets from Admiral, Philco, Westinghouse, a couple others, can bring some very high prices. RCA CTC-4/5 and later "roundie" sets are somewhat desired by collectors, very depending on condition, up through around 1967, as are some earlier rectangular sets, but these are not high priced as demand is mostly due to collector curiosity. After that it's mostly give-away pricing for later color sets.

Part of the problem in trying to divest oneself of anything is location. Chris, you are in a hard part of the country to access as far as shipping and that goes. If you were in Chicago or some place like that, you'd have takers. I like watching a GOOD black and white TV set. Most of the ones I see aren't that good. I don't enjoy really small screens, like the 7" or the 3" the collectors want. My grandparents had an early RCA color set that kept getting on fire, so it went into the draw behind the barn where we deposited trash and burned it. I still have my dad's last TV set, a 1967 model Sears Silvertone, probably built by Warwick. Dad always bought RCA sets. The salesman at Sears convinced him that this set was made by RCA, which is wasn't. It has or had a really good picture. It is a 25" console. I haven't had it turned on since 2006. I'm hoping the 27" TV in the Stereo Theater will produce a pleasant-to-watch picture as well. I want to set up a rigging with an agile modulator so I can enjoy my old CRT sets on antenna. The collectors who keep the old color sets going certainly have my respect. I'm not sure I'd go thru what they do to keep one going.
I haven't failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.....Thomas Alva Edison

Dave will probably know who made Sears' '67 Silvertones.

This site is good for early TV info and has a Classified section where anyone can place an ad for free.
They currently have an RCA CTC-100 up for bid... at $6500!
Very early color sets are the ones mostly sought by collectors.

http://www.earlytelevision.org/

Garden variety B&Ws of the '50s - early '60s typically are found in the Free to $100 range depending on condition &c
Garden-variety color "roundies" of the late '50s to '60s are typically in the $100 to $200-300 range, maybe more or less depending on the usual factors. Most people are unable to repair these themselves so that is a factor as well.

That is cool! I came across an ad for one of those awhile back as I was wasting time on the internet. I wonder if the TV guts were with the TV, or, behind the speaker? If not behind the speaker, I wonder if there would have been room for a radio?
