VM-560A Mechanical Click

Post: # 29891Post Akron70 »

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and need some help. I just recently restored a Voice of Music 560A record player. Everything works correctly except that I get a mechanical clicking sound (sometimes it double clicks) as the platter turns. The sound usually starts around 20 revolutions into playing a record. The clicking sound will sometimes disappear after it starts and then reappears after about 4 revolutions. It comes and goes. I'm sure the sound is mechanical, not electrical.

Any idea what is causing this? I'm hoping I don't have to tear it down before I know what I'm looking for.

Thanks for any help!

Welcome to the forum! You have come to the right place for information on your VM changer. My first guess would be that your noise has something to do with the drive tire. Something stuck to it, maybe it has a flat spot that makes more noise some times than others. I'm sure someone else will chime in, hopefully with the cure. Welcome aboard, thank you for completing your registration. We hope you will enjoy the forum!....... :D :D

A wild guess--the trip mechanism getting bumped?

Or maybe a dry bearing under the platter? Has this changer been tuned up? Old grease removed, new grease installed, new motor mounts, rebuilt drive tire? What is the tone arm pressure?
