Zenith, by Jimmy O.

Post: # 28645Post William »

Here is another Jimmy O unit for sale. I question the price by he must sell them, they don't seem to last long on eBay. The Maple unit behind the Zenith is a VM model 565.

It's a very nice restoration but I'm with you on the price. It looks like he has sold a few at some very inflated prices. Why can't I do that.

We don't know for sure whether he sold them and, if he did, for what price. I'd like to see some of his work up close. He is not afraid to ask for the big money..... ;) ;)

Pretty close to the one I have to work on. NO WAY is it worth that. I doubt I'd get 1k for my Fisher.

Whoa, you could buy a lot of cool equipment for that price. The restoration job looks very good, bur $4K??? Looks like it has one of those Zenith electrostatic tweeters, and we can see his version of can-stuffing.

There is a Maple VM 565, like the one behind Jimmy O's Zenith, on eBay right now, and it has been listed for a very long time. They are asking 6 something for it and it has not sold yet. $4000.00???

I know there is away on ebay to tell what something sold for, I just don't know how to do it. He may be getting that kind of money.

Eyeball. His stuff has "eyeball". My friend Jerry says that eyeball is 90% of the sale. "Resale red". "The top goes down". "It has lots of go-fast". I think he starts with good stuff, then gives it "the touch", then puts a price on it so he can go fishing..... ;)

Hey Bill, what's the price you saw on the V-M? Mine is mahogany and MCM, so it ought to be worth more!

Wouldn't you guys want him to get as much as possible so all your unrestored stuff is theoretically worth more?

Chris, here is the ad on eBay, and it was been on eBay for a very long time.

Brett, I am all for someone getting as much as possible and more power to him if he gets that kind of a price. And, yes, in theory, it would be nice if we all could get that kind of money. Where I live, I am lucky if I can give one away.

Bill, the link I posted above are pieces that he has already sold. If an item sells for less, I don't know if they change the price to reflect it.

Thanks, Danny. I know there is a way, you click a couple of things while in eBay and it takes you to the actual selling price. I just don't now how you get there. :(

I clicked on "Seller's other items" which is to the right of the pictures, then scroll down to "Sold Items" in the left-hand column and clicked on it. I wish I had his ability to sell things for those high prices.

I learned that a long time ago. 50-plus years ago, back in Ann Arbor, I had just got my new 10-speed bike. $110 for a low-end model, but it seemed like a fortune. Then it was time to sell my old 5-speed. It was a ten-dollar bicycle. I washed it, waxed it, polished the chrome, and it was a $35 bicycle. That was a lot of money in those days. I had one room, shared bath downstairs, no kitchen. Rent may have been $55/mo. (trying to remember). Maybe $110--after all, this was a student ghetto. I had Ukrainian landlords. One was a Chrysler engineer. After I'd been there a while they figured I was reliable and they'd carry me when I couldn't pay the rent. Lived there 4-1/2 years. Interesting how we don't forget kindness. Or the benefits of clean and shiny when you're selling....

Remember "A Chorus Line"... "Dance ten, looks three"...

My aunt had a small flower shop in the 70s. She made a silk arrangement and put it in the shop window for maybe $10. It wouldn't sell. My uncle said he'd sell it. Upped the price to $15 and it sold in a day...

Part of merchandising is MVR. MERCHANDISE VALUE RATIO. Does the purchaser believe they are getting what they are paying for? Sometimes undercharging is more detrimental than overcharging. Too cheap to be good?

Wanna buy a watch? I got a Rolex for 10 bucks... well, um...

Location, location, location....

If I wanted to get rid of my Magnavox collection, and wanted to sell them locally, I'd have to e-waste them. I couldn't give them away. All people want here is a phone, Bluetooth and streaming. If some of these guys can get the big money for this stuff, my hat's off to them. It's not going to make my stuff more valuable unless I re-locate it.......
