First Snow

Post: # 28196Post danrclem »

We had our first measurable snow last night. I'm right below Louisville, Ky. and it was reported that they officially got 4.7" of snow but we didn't get nearly that much.

Well, last night was not our first snow, it was our third, and the weather guesser's finally got it right which I wished they would have been wrong again. They guessed 8-12" and we actually received 14". I was thrilled when I woke up this morning to see all the snow. NOT!! Needless to say clean up took awhile. Your snow, Danny, looks pretty with the forest background.

I like watching snow fall and believe it's pretty when it is fresh. Otherwise, you guys can keep it. I will admit to enjoying plowing show with my Fergie when I had it.

Bill, a 14" snow would be a huge snow for us. It has happened before but not at this time of the year. It's supposed to get up to around 40 degrees tomorrow so I would imagine most of our snow will be gone by the end of the day. I got on the 4-wheeler and took Otis out for a run today and he seems to enjoy it. He loves catching snowballs that I pitch to him. I make them small and don't pack them very tight.

I never did mind snow just as long as I didn't have to get out in it and I really didn't mind driving in it as long as the traffic is light.

Greg, I've got my old 2810 Ford and a grader blade, but unless we get a whole lot of snow I don't even mess with it.

We had a big storm over the holiday period. I drove down to Bay City, on the Saginaw Bay shoreline, and got there just after dusk. There was a bright light on the horizon that stayed there. The internet told me that it was the American Courage, a 638-foot freighter, at anchor. It also showed a 680-foot boat, Algoma Compass, at anchor a few miles to the NE. Likely they were staying safe while the winds were over 40 mph out on the big lake. So I stayed put and didn't stat the truck again until Sunday afternoon to drive home. In mid-Michigan, the big snow came suddenly, Sat. night and Sunday a.m. Up north at home, it was spread out over 4 days. The big chore for me was raking and hauling leaves. It was a two-day job, and I got them done just as the flakes started falling on Sat. My good neighbor did the back yard with his rider, mulching them.

The new truck met its first snowfall.

It wasn't until Monday, back at home, that I put it in 4WD for the first time--in my driveway. Trying to back out, the wheels just spun. Hit 4 and off it went. The winter bike isn't quite ready yet--I had a brake problem that I figured out with internet help. Gotta have brakes on a bicycle in the city. Besides, the city is always caught by surprise at the first big snow and takes a while to get streets clear enough for bicycles.
