Have a happy Thanksgiving
This is the time of year we reflect on all our many blessings. I hope you guys all have a great turkey day. I'm going to fry a turkey again this year, for the 23rd straight year. It's become a tradition. We can't find brussels sprouts for some reason. I had no idea they were so popular. Propane is cheaper this year, so that's good. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Re: Have a happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving to you and everybody else on the site.
I'd say that most of us have a lot to be thankful for even though we have a few bumps now and then. We celebrated Thanksgiving last Saturday because if we waited until Thursday there would be some who wouldn't be able to make it.
Here's a Thanksgiving song that will probably make most of you hate me for posting it.
The first time I heard it was on the Rick and Bubba show many, many years ago and I always think of it at about this time of year and can't seem to get it out of my mind.

Re: Have a happy Thanksgiving
Missing my usual gathering this year because the hostess has flown to WA to help her son and his wife get settled in a new house. I always head "downstate" (south, in Michigan talk) to the summer cottage for a work weekend. There's an enormous cottonwood tree that does not drop its leaves until after my last trip in mid-Oct., so there will likely be a couple days of leave raking and hauling. Most of them end up in the front (lake side) and have to be hauled the length of a long, skinny lot, across the road to a parcel I also own, where there is my enormous leaf/compost pile. My good neighbor has been taking care of the back yard (road side) with his riding mower but if there are leave present I usually try to grind them up to add organic material to the soil which started off as all sand.
But it can't be all work. For the Thursday feast, I'll either join some neighbors or have them in. I stocked up in some food that I'll haul along, and tonight on the way home stopped at the Cheese Lady story and bought 4-5 interesting cheeses.
Looks like this may be a test of my new truck's 4WD. The forecast is for up to 8" of snow in areas I'll be traversing to get where I'm going. The hew truck doesn't have snow tires like the Ranger does, but I figure 4WD will get me started in time of need.
We get Friday off at work so it will be a long weekend.
As for the kiddo in WA, he just moved to the Redmond area and is paying west coast prices. I laugh--I was 31 when I bought my first house--$25,000, which seemed stratospheric. Out west, he's paying a bit north of a million bucks, buying his first one at 38. Maybe some day he'll laugh about how cheap that first house was.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. The weather guesser's say snow, but as of last nights report not as much as Chris is stating he might run into and I hope not, I need to drive to the Grand Rapids area for my Thanksgiving. In my old age and retirement years I prefer to stay home and watch it snow from the window rather than drive in it. I guess that makes me a crotchety old fart who lives in Hart.

Our reports get more dire, and I left work early to get past the snow belt before water turns to ice.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Just got back from the dentist for yet another crown, this time on a wisdom tooth that broke a couple of days ago. I'm thankful for our dentist with his genuine concern, excellent anesthesia, and gobs of modern dentistry gadgets!
We're in a serious drought down here in central Texas, yesterday it was in the mid 80's F, today it's cooled off to the 60's, and sunny! Tomorrow 2 of our 3 daughters are joining us for our traditional turkey feast #3 via FaceTime), and then nearby neighbors for a "Friendsgiving" of leftovers on Saturday. As Mississippi-born folk, I don't think my wife and I could survive those Yankee winters!

Yeah, modern dentistry is a wonder--not only do we keep our teeth, but the repairs are painless.stbasil wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:39 pm Happy Thanksgiving to you all! And as to southerners, my Mom was born and raised on AL. Her mom's family was from MS. But once she arrived in MI, she was here to stay. As kids we'd make annual spring-break road trips to visit the family in AL, but Mom was never a "snowbird," as we call those faint-hearted folks who move to FL or AZ in the winter. She liked to shovel snow. She measured a person's civic virtue by how well-kept the sidewalks and driveway were.

I thought in Arizona you could put the turkey on your back patio and the sun would cook it

Re: Have a happy Thanksgiving
I survived frying a turkey for the 23rd year in a row. Not enough left to make soup. Turkey soup is my favorite part of Thanksgiving food. The big dishes are done by hand, the small stuff is in the dishwasher. It's easier for me to wash pots and pans by hand than trying to get the dishwasher loaded so everything gets clean. The Chiefs and Cowboys are playing (who cares?) but everyone is cheering on the Chiefs, so here I am on the forum. I hope you all are having a good Thanksgiving with friends and family.
