My sister and I were discussing various of our Mom's southernisms the other day ("I'll jerk a knot in your tail") and there's one right here in the article's first paragraph: this is the song that "put him in the catbird seat."

But the story is interesting--how songs come to be is never predictable--and best of all, it turns out that the lyrics are related to Federico Fellini's film, La Strada, one of the most powerful and devastating movies ever made. So while the song always makes me a bit moist-eyed, so does recalling the images from that film. It's available online, and best seen at night.
