I know this is a tough audience for country music, but another of my favorites passed away today. Jeanne Seely was one of the girl country singers from the 1960's whose music populated juke boxes and dance halls in the Midwest. Married to Hank Cochran for a time. She recorded duet albums with Jack Greene in the early 1970's.

Never make assumptions about us! I'm mostly a classical music guy but every Sunday night I'm tuned into WCMU for the Sunday night blue show, "The Juke Joint," hosted by a community volunteer, Robert Barclay, for 40 years (!!). And on winter Saturday nights I'll tune in to WSM of the cool GE P780 and listen to the Grand Ole Opry. That where I'd hear Jeannie Seely.

I can't get WSM out here. Last I heard that station, Little Jimmy Dickens and Jimmy C. Newman were on the show, along with Jeannie Seely. Now all three of them are gone. The wife and I were talking last evening that Bobby Bare, Connie Smith and Crystal Gayle were the only artists I have in my record collection that are still alive. I think Margo Smith may still be around as well, come to think of it. I can't tell the difference between the modern country artists.

Here's another fan of country music. It's been a long time since I've attended the Grand Ole Opry but it's highly likely that I saw Jeane Seely when I was there, but I don't have any specific memories of her performing. It's a long time since I've been there though.
I doubt if there are many there today that I would even want to see. Maybe Vince Gill but he still wasn't one of my favorites.

Connie Smith is on RFD TV all the time. She is also 85 and still sings pretty well. Not like she did when she was 25. She was discovered by Bill Anderson. When Connie Smith goes, all the "band" girl singers will be gone. Loretta Lynn, Dottie West, Patsy Cline, Jan Howard, Kitty Wells, Jeanne Seely, Norma Jean, Tammy Wynette, Anne Murray all gone. Connie Francis passed last week with nary a peep. Wonder who she got mad at her?
