We've been here for four years
July the 9th was our fourth anniversary of the forum. We have right at 100 real, legitimate, non-spambot members. Some we haven't heard from for awhile, and it sure would be nice to hear from them. Trusting that they are all okay, just busy. We are rapidly coming to the point where we are going to have to change forum software so we can stay ahead of all the security measures we need to take to stay safe. The current software is not being updated, so it is essentially an antique. Changing the forum to more safety-compliant software will cost money. I want software that provides more features and capabilities. Maybe even the ability to post music and videos on the forum. Maybe have a spot in Downloads for members' videos taken during their projects. This would add a lot of capability if a member was having an issue and wanted help. I'm going to get with Mark once he gets a breather and I get a breather so we can spend time figuring out what is available, what will work best, then what it will cost. There will be connection issues and "growing pains" like there was when we changed forum hosts last summer. We need to be aware of what can be expected and all work together to make it work. Members who would like to contribute to this project will be on our steering committee, selecting features we want, etc. We may select another moderator so we can give Bill a promotion. Anyone who would care to help or has ideas may contact me or Bill via PM.

Posting videos or music really isn't necessary. A link is sufficient, or even just the performer for music, since a quick search usually gives YouTube options. I post my videos on YouTube so anybody can go to them from posted links.

Re: We've been here for four years
Maybe people won't want to mess with posting on YouTube. Plus, there are copyright and content issues to deal with. I'm not definitely sure about this, but I think if we post our videos on our forum, they are considered our content and we don't have to dance to anyone else's fiddler. Our content would then be copyrighted. This is in its early stages, and, at this point, is just conversation. I think a video posting feature would be helpful if you were having an issue, such as working with a changer.

I'm just skeptical of bells and whistles by nature. It's why I am dismayed that the new truck will have one of those ##$&*^!!! screens in it. I(Flying out on Monday to get the truck). I laugh a bit because my Dad was always reluctant to use the windshield wipers for fear that they would wear out or fail. "Dad, turn on the wipers!!"

Re: We've been here for four years
I use Rain-X on all the glass on my cars. I haven't used windshield wipers for years. They fog the glass. The only time I have used wipers in the last 30 years is in snow. Rain-X doesn't work very well in snow. Your dad and I would have gotten along well. I don't worry about wearing them out so much. I just don't like them moving in front of my eyes.
I'm not much on new stuff myself, quite honestly. I'm trying to figure out cell phones, features and that. But, if we want our forum to survive we need new software and hopefully a younger person who would want to take it over when I get too old to want to mess with it.

I've got RainX for the Chevy, with non-working wipers (getting them out and open is worse than servicing a hanger). Didn't think to try it on the daily drivers.
