Sonny James

"You're The Only World I Know" is one of my favorite Sonny James songs. It went to #1 on the country charts in 1964. One of his first songs with mezzo-soprano background vocals, certainly unique in country music, then and now. He also liked using a harpsichord in his recordings. Marie Osmond covered this song on one of the three albums she recorded that were produced by Sonny James in the 1973-1975 era. You couldn't turn on WJJD when you didn't hear this song. I wish I had the money I put in the jukebox at the Marathon Inn to play this song for my girlfriend. I was 14, spending my lawn mowing money..... ;) ;)

Sonny James had his own background vocal group, The Southern Gentlemen. Quite a collection of talent here..

"That's Why I Love You Like I Do" included both a harpsichord lead-in and Mexican trumpets. I don't know how to describe the "Sonny James beat", but it was unique and pleasant. 1972.

Sonny James cover of the Brooke Benton classic, "It's Just A Matter of Time". It went to #1 on the country charts. Randy Travis had a hit on this in the 1980's.
