Radio shack patrolman CB 60
I have had this portable sitting on the shelf for a couple years ...it was a great performer until the dial string broke, I took it apart and saw how convoluted the stringing was , I threw my hands up and put it on the shelf where it has sat ...Lately I have been trying to clean out the stuff I have sitting around and came across this radio and gave it a try... it takes well over 6 ft of dial cord just to string this little portable ... I could get the 3 tuners to turn simultaneously but the dial indicator would only move about 1/3 of the way across the dial ?....so just for fun I googled patrolman CB-60 and lo and behold a free service manual was online . I downloaded it and found the stringing diagram... I would have never in a million years figured this one out ... take a look at the many turns this thing has on the intermediate pulleys alone! I assume they allow the indicator the extra string to move all the way across the dial? if I get this to tune again it will be a miracle.. the dial lights are also burned out , so I will replace them with a couple LED's ...

unfortunately the dial cord I have is for old radios .8mm diameter and braided , neither will work , the original measures .05mm and is not braided ...it is almost like a thick thread ... I will have to raid the wife's sewing supplies to see if I can find something similar ... the original on the bottom and what I have on the top

Go to a place that sells fishing tackle a cord in the right diameter. It's strong and durable. Does the diameter matter that much in your current project?

Re: Radio shack patrolman CB 60
wifey to the rescue... she had the right sized stuff , so after numerous attempts I finally got it all stringed up...the problem I always have is the spring termination ... had to re-tie it a few times to get the tension right...that blue tack stuff is your friend because it holds the string while you fiddle with getting it on the pulleys ...oh, and the channel selector is also string controlled , another headache to get lined up correctly ....replaced the burnt out grain of wheat bulbs with a couple LED's , it plays good and very sensitive, RS stuff was always decent ... so back on the shelf it goes , but at least it is all together ...
