1958 Buick Century Caballero station wagon

Post: # 22796Post electra225 »

In Laural Mist Metallic paint, riding incorrect but gorgeous Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels. I'm not a fan of the "B-58" attrocities produced by Buick in 1958, but I sure think this car is pretty. Laurel Mist, Lido Lavendar, whatever you want to call it is my favorite color. Wire wheels are incorrect and maybe even dangerous used on the '58 Buicks due to interference with the aluminum front brake drums. Guys still run them, using spacers between the wheels and the brake drums. They sure look nice on this car.......

Quite the ride. A prime example of excess. Looks like a nice restoration.

It's a wagon! Beautiful car, but it would take me forever just to polish the chrome.

Twenty five years ago, it cost almost $25,000 to have just the chrome redone for a "58 Limited or Roadmaster. The stainless polishing was on top of that. The grille has 160 individual pot metal squares that all have to come off the basic grille frame. The have to be marked individually, measured, then cataloged where they go since they are different sizes and only go back one way that is right. The pot metal on the tail light housings and bumper ends would pit badly due to the exhaust running thru the bumper. When we redid the chrome, we would put turn-downs on the tail pipes so the exhaust wouldn't pit the chrome so badly. Art did a '57 Caballero in Garnet Red over black with KH wires. The styling on the '57 was arguably cleaner, but the '58's were prettier. The restoration on this one is really good.
