This changer may have come out of a GE stereo of some sort. The Vacu-Magic setup was a gimmick that GE liked to use in their top line stereos. By the knobs, I'd say this thing was 1961 or earlier. The idea was that this device would remove the dust off records rather than letting it accumulate on the needle.

I have never seen this system on any tone arm other than the Custom. I wonder how they managed the extra plumbing without increasing tone arm weight....

The hose probably did not add much weight, but with age that hose would get very stiff and probably mess up the tracking.
