just listened to the live broadcast of "A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols" from Cambridge (King's College Chapel) England.

The local public radio station where I am over the holidays has gone all-chatter so I had to listen via the public station where I live, 145 road miles away. The transmitter is closer to here--maybe 90 mile away. Long ago, I popped a Yagi antenna up on the rooftop so my Dad could listen to that station. We're on the fringe here. I wanted to record the broadcast, something I've done for a long time, so I set up a Scott receiver and a cassette deck upstairs and used a folded dipole antenna on a stick. It as a clean signal in mono and I could not force the receiver onto stereo, so it's a mono recording.

It's a bit of joy to hear a live broadcast from across the ocean, from such a glorious location .

On my list is to spend a Christmas in England.

Maybe I can get a job at Selfridge's as a doorman or something for a month...

Thats why Interlochen Public Radio is the best! Yeah, strongest NPR station nearest where I live went all talk last March. Can only listen to their music feed on the internet... I hope they have lost a good number of their contributers and get the idea that they should at least do a mix.

Here's map showing the WIAA (music station) transmitters and their supposed range. I listen to 88.7 down in Bay City, way beyond the range they show, using a rooftop directional antenna. Have you tried a Yagi or other directional antenna aimed at the Interlochen or Mackinaw City transmitter? (88.7 actually transmits from Harietta). Use good twinlead, twisted to reduce noise, or coax with a balun.
