CG in Palm Springs

Post: # 13038Post Hydrolastic »

This one is concerning as he hints that he would sell the amps. I hope someone gets it but the price seems high maybe a reasonable offer needs to be made?

Definitely out of my price range, and definitely too far away. I hope someone get it too. I hate to see anything parted out.

Clean looking unit, imo absurdly overpriced, but then I've never been much of a fan of any 6V6GT based amps and don't like front-mount controls. The bass amp's PPP design and bi-amping just adds un-needed over-complication and circuitry, imho they should have just used 2 6L6GC or 5881s (or after 1960 7591s): cheaper, simpler, better. Also the output xfrms on these aren't really all that impressive, considering, don't know who made theirs but there's good integrated amps that have ones that are considerably larger, like 50% larger. I have no doubt with all that kit they sound pretty good, but due to to excess complexity (it could almost be German that way!) never been a huge fan of these (...putting flameproof suit on) but probably a must-have for hard-core Maggie collectors. Definitely should NOT be parted out, perish the thought, but if he wants max profit... :-(

....and it's a "Traditional", 1ST800L, there were no "French"- anything cabinets. The cherry and mahogany cabinets were called "Provincial". The walnut finished cabinets were called "Traditional" which is what that one is. The guy sounds like a flipper, not a collector. He appears to be "in it" for the buck. A dangerous combination. The Concert Grand was over-built, but over-built to a high standard. Every serious Magnavox collector, or even an serious stereo console collector needs one. Concert Grands are like some of the old cars we love. They made better stereos, but they weren't Concert Grands. Unique. Wonderful devices. :D :D ;) ;)

No doubt a CG is one of the finest consoles built but there were others in its class..

A Fisher President would be my choice at the time for no other reason than the inclusion of a r2r, it's complement of amps and adjustable speakers.

Honestly, for how big a Cadillac fan I am, I'd have bought an imperial in '59. It had far more oomph and less ugh than that batmobile.
