Phonola

Discussions about instruments in smaller cabinets. If they don't set on the floor, they belong here. Tube and solid state, stereo and mono.

Phonola

Post: # 11987Post hermitcrab »

started tearing the phonola set apart , only electrolytic on the chassis is the power cap... it tests fine, the rest are all ceramics , after cleaning the controls and the tube sockets , it fired right up , and it is surprisingly sensitive for only being 5 tubes for the radio itself, those GE compactrons must jam a bunch of circuitry in to them... in the basement with a 3' piece of wire , I picked up stations i never usually do... only problem is no stereo light which is a neon , my bench speakers are too close together to tell if there is any separation ...the turntable being a VM of course the idler sounds like metal against metal while playing...
