I like that cabinet better than my French Provincial cabinet, but I like that I do not have the glass tops on mine. The price is a little high, but much more reasonable than the CG.

My Berkshire has glass lids, and they are ok but they scare me to death. I am so afraid I'm going to drop something on them and then I'm screwed.

How about creating some sort of removable protective covers for everyday use? You could remove them for show but they would protect against those stupid blunders we all make when we get distracted. I've had my share of "Oh, s__t" moments, the ones where you wish you could rewind the tape and start again.

The glass lids are tempered glass, I'm sure. Even in the 1960's it might have been suicide to sell non-tempered glass lids for consumer use. My guess is the stuff is pretty tough. What about putting a layer of clear plexiglas under the glass to reinforce it?

Chris and Greg! Both are good ideas, and both I will consider. I certainly like the looks of the glass, it's amazing how they got the matching wood look applied to the bottom side of the glass.

I would go to the local hardware or big box store and have a couple pieces of plexiglass cut for a safety option...

Hello, I like the glass panels on mine also. It is amazing the finish that is applied. Mine are the burl wood and the black and gold ebony. If you look at them a while you begin to see that they are the same pattern on all the panels. Hydro

I wonder if it might be a good idea for folks with glass tops on their Magnavox stereos to take a good picture of the wood graining on those tops. Then, should the worst happen, God forbid, that somebody actually break a glass, there would be a pattern to make a vinyl decal of to reproduce the glass. Just a thought....
