Re: New project...

Are you doing all of your woodworking with the Shop-Smith? Bill No, to use the shop Smith I would have to move the cars and half the corner of the garage just to get it out, I am just using the table saw , chop saw, and router, I actually put the ShopSmith up on FB marketplace, and all I got was re...

Re: Kraco 8-Track Reborn as the 4 Watt "Germanium Bake King" (Parts 1&2)

Nowadays everyone disses on Germanium because of the scarcity of replacements... but if you take the time to search the web, there are many to be found , the Russian germanium outputs are really robust and plentiful to obtain ... Germaniums have a warmer sound like tube sets , unlike their silicon r...

Re: New project...

Making some progress... the louvered speaker grilles takes the better part of a day, gluing up each individual slat and waiting like watching paint dry ... the front of the case I was scratching my head over, and my wife just said keep it simple , so what you see is what it will be...the next pic sh...

Would it be considered plagiarized by using an image out of a defunct sales catalog? ... after all the Mfgs wanted to get them out into the peoples hands to show off their line up for the year...

Re: New project...

Elton, did you ever determine who built this unit for Monkey Wards? Looking at the chassis laying on the floor it was not a cheapy. Bill Bill, it was built by Wells Garner... but some of the individual PC boards in the chassis look like magnavox clones, the same type of PC boards and the stenciling...

Re: RCA Victor VGT-90W newbie restoration

Most likely the caps are dried up...but the power supply shows what looks like replacements already the hold down clamps are there but empty... it is definitely worth the time to re-cap it .. looks like one of RCA's better units

Re: VM 1297 changer missing spring or not?

Gary I would say yes ...there is only one plinth template for all the 1200's , not sure how different the later models are like the 1500 and 1700 series...I have never come across one that new ... yet...

Re: New project...

What cabinet style did you pick? Bill The carcass is glued up and screwed , cutting the template for the changer , and the radio head ...I went the normal cabinet route, I was thinking about replicating the Magnavox upright models , but this thing has 15" woofers so I wanted some separation......

Re: VM 1297 changer missing spring or not?

Greg, I was fortunate enough that Gary had one with the head for my other changer ... he must be out of them now?...anyway the cart was only held in with two sided tape, I carefully pried it out and popped the new one in, sounds good, of course this being a VM the idler was hard and had the familiar...
