Question About Cathode Bypass Cap

Hello all, Starting on this 1960 Decca DP-547 two tube unit. Capacitor C1C is 20 mF 150 VDC per the original three component capacitor can. Due to room constraints in the little chassis, I'd like to use a 22 mF 50 VDC for the bypass capacitor of the 50C5 tube. From the many other hot chassis type li...

Re: 1957 Dynavox Table Top

Greg, I had connected a ground wire as suggested.

I tried new 50C5 tubes, and the hum persists.

The sound is much better at higher volume, but
so is the hum (vol dependent).

It LOOKS good, though ! [ : )

Anyway, it'll be outta the house, and that's good.

Re: 1957 Dynavox Table Top

After accidentally blowing the new e-lytic caps last month, I have the Dynavox all back together. I put in a new tonearm that would accept a Pfanstiehl P-228 cartridge. The old arm had a turn-around crystal cart that was shot. There is more hum than I'd like, but not extreme. I tried swapping anothe...

Your V-M changer is from the 123x, 124x,125x,126x family

in Sams Photofact 646-10.

I'll place it in the uploads in a day or so.

There are cosmetic differences and a speed selector
control difference, but the cycling mechanism is the same
in all.

Christmas Hi-Fi Candy Store in CA

Just happened to run across this CL post for a
northern California vintage audio business.

Some very nice restored units, at affordable prices (at least in CA).

Re: Console Model 853

Gary has asked me to pull the turntable to get at the model number. I see two screws on top and some "capture" catches on the bottom, while the table is set on springs. Before I pull the turntable, is it as simple as removing these screws? 1. Please also post the record changer model # he...

I have found several of Bill Black's Combo early Hi albums
at estate and garage sales.

Production is so good from this record company.

Excellent house studio musicians on Hi records.

Re: RCA RP-217/218

I would add to make sure there is no rubber
accumulation on the stepped spindle rotor of the
motor.

I encountered an increase in speed in that situation
on a standard Alliance motor in a V-M changer.

V-M 1260 One Tube Player

I'm going to donate this unit, but I wanted it functional. The amp and speaker/OPT are both mounted on the motor board. A bit wonky there. I was able to re-build the changer and motor w/o having to remove the speaker and amp. The original idler wheel was still good. I replaced the dead crystal cart ...

"Now Is Tomrrow" Presaged Oct 1962

Stumbled across this deep existential thought-provoking cold war 1958 essay on the people trained who would press "The Button". I can see why it was not aired. It's not lost its impact to this day. Just 4 years later, in 1962, the possibility of the button was real. Richard Matheson's work...

The Wright Brothers (Book)

This narrative is by David McCullough published in 2015. I am thoroughly enjoying this read, due to Mr. McCullough's unassuming narrative style and the engrossing story of what was so much more than the 1903 Kitty Hawk, NC flight. As the reader, I feel the author's success as writing the book almost...
