1964 G.E. Mono RP-2101

I finished this little gal a few months ago, and forgot to post. A two tube pc amp with a 35W4 and a 35EH5. The V-M changer is a small block 1257. Single 4 inch speaker. Original Vaco mono crystal turnover cartridge works ! The amplifier and changer mount on a steel base that seats in the plastic ca...

"Soul Serenade" King Curtis Capitol T2095 Mono

A guy gave me a stack of grimy unloved albums some months ago. I had seen this album by King Curtis, and remembered that King worked with Buddy Holly on "Reminiscing". So, after the album got a good washing, I am really digging this album from 1964. A seminal year of change in popular musi...

Re: 1956 Columbia Manual One Tube Player

This tonearm tracks exceedingly LIGHT at 3-4 grams. There is a counter-balance spring at the rear of the tonearm; it is original from its looks and mounting. There is no tracking force adjustment designed into the tonearm. Phono cart is a Ronette TO-395, which should track at 8 grams per what info I...

1956 Columbia Manual One Tube Player

I liked the '50's two color scheme on this little player. I replaced the selenium rectifier with a 1N4007 diode. Filter capacitors had expected bad hum. I removed the multi-section cap can, and installed caps on a terminal strip. The tube voltages are somehow spot on the schematic values. Motor moun...

1956,1957 Firestone 4-A-146

Finished up this cute 1957 Firestone branded hi-fi. There were 3 models with the same 3 tube amp that were apparently produced in 1956 and 1957. A manual player, player with a V-M 950, and player with a V-M 1200A record changer. I have the V-M 1200A changer in the 1957 4-A-146 model, best looking de...

Record Changer Lot Available

I have multiple record changers I am ready to give away for only shipping cost. Most are 1950's V-M 1200 series, with a few 1950's-60's RCAs. These are changers w/o a base, that came from damaged record player cabinets not restoreable. Those members seriously interested, please PM me with an email a...

Re: Changers versus turntables

I had a few folks on the other forum argue that record changers are just the worst ever, and ceramic carts damage records beyond recognition. All I know is that I've bought hundreds of old albums over the years from garage/estate sales, and unless physically raked up by the user, the vast majority w...

1959 Aristocrat Stereo complete

Nice young couple dropped this off a few months ago. They are now happy and stoked for record playing. Amp and changer all serviced, along with the usual never seen problems that were all solved in the end. The AMP 197-20 with a single 6BQ5 per channel produces an amazing full sound. Re-routed the n...

Philco Branded Glaser-Steers 77

I'm waiting on the idler and drive wheels to arrive.

When I am ready to power up the motor, will I
connect AC power to pins 4 and 5 ?

It looks like pins 2 and 4 also will work,
though switched ?

There is a VFT-29 chassis # RS-212A.

What is your chassis number ? You didn't post it.

Re: Assist With AMP 197-20 Please

Ix-Nay on the Sonotone 8-T cartridge. After fixing the tonearm wiring, I find the cart has low output now. I have a BSR-Tetrad cart with a top hole in the cart body, that I have installed in the tonearm. Now I'll undo the old tonearm wires and tape the end of them to the end of the Tetrad harness wi...

Can you explain what wideband AM hi-fi mode is ?

I see some nomenclature on the band
selection dial that indicates that.

Thanks.

Re: Assist With AMP 197-20 Please

I cleaned and re-assembled the F200C changer sub-plate mechanism, and installed the motor. All cycling functions are good. The original idler and drive wheels will be sent to Gary at V of Music for replacement. One bump in the road is that the On/Off/REJ knob's internal metal support is missing. So,...

Re: 1970 Zenith 169-363 aka V-M 1293

V-M made several versions that used the cable system for
the speed select and changer cycle controls

I think they started the year of this one 1970, and I've worked
on a few made in the mid 1970's prior to V-M's demise.

Re: Assist With AMP 197-20 Please

This changer looks very similar to the Collaro 456. If I might ask, Mr. Mogul, what are the differences between the two that you have noticed? Bill The Collaro 456 has a completely different cycling mechanism, full of nefarious linkages. [ : ) I tried once to get a 456 to work, and I'll never work ...

Re: Assist With AMP 197-20 Please

Amp re-cap was successful on testing. Now I'm making headway in the dis-assembly and cleaning of the F200C Collaro record changer. One design flaw (for service at least) is that the tonearm wires go through a hole in the sub-plate housing. Due to the nature of the different muting system on this cha...

Re: 1970 Zenith 169-363 aka V-M 1293

Bill, I've never heard or seen V-M customizing their changers except for external features. Monday I installed the changer back in the Zenith console and the sound was really nice. This version has large oval 12" x 8" woofers with separate tweeters. I didn't expect such really nice deep ra...
