Re: New project...

So, keeping it simple, does that mean no covering over the front speakers? I like the looks of the cabinet, what color stain are you going to use?

Re: Tubed? Sylvania St. Louis, MO $120

You are welcome, Mark. I have had several offers over the years to sell my 225's but the answer was always NO. Sometimes I still wish I had the receiver as well, but my current receiver is about a 20-year-old Carver which I enjoy, and it does what I want it to do.

Re: Tubed? Sylvania St. Louis, MO $120

I love Sylvania stereos, and the one in your post is from their Cotillion collection. The amp/receiver is R12-5, the speaker system is AS-700-2X and dates around 1966. Not sure why the tube is there but this thing is solid state. Interesting that you and I had similar interest in Sylvania back in th...

Re: The days in Arizona are getting cooler......

Yes, clean the gutters and rake leaves but also pull the garden and pull or cut down the flower beds and of course we are still mowing. Two nights ago, we had our first frost. It was not a heavy one, but it was enough to kill off the more delicate flowers. With our lack of fall rain, the guessers sa...

No, Walter, but I wish I was there. Beautiful Caddy's, I am jealous. Do you have more photos you could share?

Chris, I think pretty much all-American built cars had floor vents at some point.

I am pretty sure I have that 78 as well, but not sure of the condition as I have not seen or played it in a long time.

Re: VM 570 turntable issues

Hi Andreas, First, the amplifier is MONO, for this unit to be stereo you need its matching amplifier/speaker. Which is this, but model VM-102. You will also need a stereo cartridge which you may already have. Check to see how many wires attach to the cartridge that is installed in your changer. Two ...

Re: Tinkering with OTA TV broadcasts

Thanks for all the info, guys. All of the homemade and store-bought OTA antennas seem to work well when you live in the city but here in country bumkin land not so much. I have a good store-bought antenna and even though it does work reception is sketchy and the number of channels I can get is limit...

Like you, I hate doing dial cords I have no patience when it comes right down to it. It takes 6-8 times before I get it right. :(

Re: New project...

Interesting, Elton. I have an old Coronado floor radio that WG built and WG was probably 75% the main supplier for Gambles which had the Coronado brand. It was good stuff. Funny thing, at the Gamble Store that I worked at as a kid we of course sold the Coronado brand which rarely gave trouble. As a ...

Re: Tinkering with OTA TV broadcasts

It sounds like you have success, just not all the channels you want. If MeTV is not available OTA, then I would call it good enough and be happy with what you are getting. I have an OTA antenna that is a good one, had it for years, and in the GR area it worked great. Now living in the pucker brush, ...

Elton, did you ever determine who built this unit for Monkey Wards? Looking at the chassis laying on the floor it was not a cheapy.

It is definitely one of RCA's better units and is actually next to the top of the line that was built in that era.
