Re: General Electric RP-2060A
Are you using a Variac and/or an isolation transformer with this stereo? If you are, disconnect it, connect directly to the wall. If you aren't using a Variac and/or an isolation transformer, connect the stereo to one. See if either connection helps the buzz. The schematic doesn't show the metal shi...

FS...Cleaning out the shop
I have a number of items surplus to my needs. Per the rules, I'll post a price, but don't let that stop you. If you need any of these items, we can make a deal. *I have a number of 3" speaker cones, gaskets and voice coils that are for the in-dash GM speakers of the 1970's. I used one of the ki...

Alternative power cords for General Electric stereos
A forum member contacted me about a power cord for his GE Trimline stereo. These stereos have a power cord interlock like is more commonly used in TV sets. The originals go bad, and replacements are unobtanium. I have found that the power cord used on those cheap boombox radios and cassette tape pla...

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
The tone arm does not have 1/2" mount. It is a flip cartridge. It will probably require using a glue-in kit from Gary. I used one of those on the little 45 player I did and it worked out well. Getting the tone arm off will be the worst part of the job. I have trouble with that process....

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
I was going to use studs and locking nuts. IF I could get the right parts, that would be better. I don't want to risk breaking the bakelite on this thing by not having the changer secured properly. Thanks for your kind offer. I'll take you up on it, if you have some you can spare.

I wish I understood all I know (?) about cookies. Every time you go on a website, it gives you a cookie. New cookies don't always get along with old cookies. This is why you have to delete them from time to time. Nobody thinks about cookies until they have a problem. I'm glad you got it sorted.... ;...

Re: Brakes!!!
Body shops out here won't work on cars over ten years old. You have to take them to hotrod shop or "B" body shops that only work on the older stuff. You'd think with the absence of rust, cars 20 years old would be easy to repair. The electronics are the issue. If you need anything electron...

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
Thanks, Mr. Mogul! Good information to know. I found a Chris Cuff video on the RP-205 that told me what I needed to know to get the thing apart. The 205 is a later, 4-speed changer, where this one is only a three-speed. It looks like mine on the bottom. This changer may not be all that tough to serv...

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
I came across this when I was looking for information on this changer. Apparently, a Pfanstiehl P226 is a good choice for a replacement cartridge. I'm still not understanding all I need to know about this changer.

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
The cartridge appears to be a 1/2" mount. I recapped the chassis. I also found the cartridge is stone dead. Whatever I did to the changer didn't help the "always in reject mode" situation. It will have to come apart so it can be serviced properly. I've never done one, of course, so I'...

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
Well, you know me. I can't resist messing with something. So, I decided to just do the filter caps, for the reason I could better diagnose the cartridge, see if it works without all the filter hum. There are a dozen paper caps in that little chassis. I reckon, while I'm already here, I'd just as wel...

Re: RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
I have some pictures to follow. This is what I know about this little player to this point.... *It's in nice shape. I'd say a 9 out of 10 easily. *I think we can call this a 1954 model. The two RCA tubes are dated 1954. *It is not an RCA record player exclusively. It is also a Hummer...... ;) *The 3...

I'm sorry, Doug. I didn't know the amp schematic wasn't there. I checked on my computer and it's not there, either. I need to see what Sams it is in, then check my external hard drive to see if it is there. I'll get it posted. Thanks for letting me know..... Later........I found the amp schematic fo...

Re: Philco 46-431
Who did you use to rebuild the speaker, Dave? My old Temple needs its speaker reconed. I thought I had it sold, but I still have it and like using it. The speaker cone is largely paper towels and speaker glue now..... The radio snoots turn their noses up at those old "horizontal consoles. I lik...

Re: Brakes!!!
You are lucky you found a dealer than not only fixed the problem, but would work on a vehicle that old. Our little local Chevy dealer sent us a letter informing us that they would unfortunately not be able to work on our old Tahoe since it is 20 years old. Said it wasn't safe to drive and that GM wo...

Re: 1960 Magnavox Concert Grand model 1ST800F rehabilitation
I've got good highs, no complaints there. The issue with this now is that when it hits a heavy bass note, as in Patsy Cline's double-beat bass, it gets fuzzy, muddy. This and the fact that a penny improves matters, makes me think the needle is bad. Neither the EV 26 nor the GE C-100 is available fro...

RCA Victor model 6-ES-3 record player
I have this cute little 3-speed record player. It has the RP-197 changer, if I read correctly. I need a needle for my CG changer before I go much further on it and don't want to pay shipping on just one needle, so I think I'll get a baseline and a parts list made for this thing and order what parts ...
