I ran across this excellent video. Maybe it will answer some questions we may have. He doesn't mention the azimuth adjustment, making sure the needle is running perfectly vertically.

Re: Ortofon VMS 20e Mk II cartridge
I find less time to tinker in the shop here lately than I'd like. Sometimes, life gets in the way of our good intentions.

Re: Highway Patrol
Radial tires and solid state ignition are the best two improvements I have made to my Buick.
I still have a new speaker for a '60 Rambler American I bought for a customer who thought his speaker was bad.

Re: Highway Patrol
I drive my Buick like I was driving a dump truck. 1963 Buicks had finned aluminum brake drums, hoarded by the hotrodders of the day. Buick has as good of brakes as anything on the road in 1963. Now those old single-circuit, drum brakes are adequate, but just barely, when you consider they are stoppi...

Re: Ortofon VMS 20e Mk II cartridge
The protractor I need can be downloaded and printed, if I read right. I have a mirror to check the azimuth (proud of me, Chris, that I know this big word? ;) )and I already have a gram scale. I have a lightweight level I can use to check that the tone arm is level. Like you, Chris, I never paid any ...

Re: Ortofon VMS 20e Mk II cartridge
I have several "good" turntables. I mis-spoke earlier when I said I had an Audio Technica turntable. It is a Technics turntable with an Audio Technica cartridge. It's probably the "best" turntable I have, but is not my favorite. That honor goes to an Accurion DJ turntable I bough...

Ortofon VMS 20e Mk II cartridge
I recently acquired one of these cartridges. I've wanted a audiophile grade cartridge for some time. This cartridge is highly regarded. I wanted to use it on my Accurion DJ turntable to replace the Stanton 500 that I like so well. Research tells me that using this cartridge on a DJ turntable would b...

Highway Patrol
There was mention made of the TV show, "Highway Patrol" in another topic. In order not to derail that topic, I'll start this one. I don't know for sure how long the show was on, but it was at least thru 1958. I think it started in 1954. Dan Matthews and his crew patrolled a certain section...

Dan Matthews, played by Broderick Crawford was one of my heroes when I was a kid. Howard Cherry and I played cops, no robbers. We were both the good guys. We would be on our bicycles talking "cop talk". We knew all the "10-codes". Dan Matthews drove a '55 Buick Century two door s...

Re: 1959 Aristocrat Stereo complete
Nice job, Mr. Mogul! Magnavox left their wiring sloppy, but there was plenty so you could reroute it and make it look neat. They liked to plant the Multiplex adapter in the warmest part of the cabinet, typically near or on top of output tubes.......

The spambots shut us down for 48 hours or so over the weekend. Mark is on the case and is making certain adjustments to enhance security, and, hopefully, will encourage our "guests" to go elsewhere. Persistent little buggers this year. We set a record of 7218 users online during a f...

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival
The tubes I mentioned above tested good. The audio tubes are another story. One of the original 12AU7's tests pretty weak. One of the 6V6's didn't test well, either. The codes on tubes are from the 35th week of 1959 thru the 49th week of 1959. Quite a spread. Some of the HK-branded, Amperex-sourced ...

Re: Yeah, it works fine. Until it doesn't.....
There have been several discussions, on this forum as well as others, about the stereo light malfuntioning on Motorola stereos. There seems to be no consensus on how to make it work again, dependably. I have an ST-82 that has a wonky stereo light. The thing that has helped it most is replacing the F...

Our Internet and TV cable were down yesterday, so I decided to play some 45's for a change. I dug out my trusty little 1949 RCA 45 changer and the 6-RF-91 radio I built that the cabinet was in several pieces. I installed them on the island in the kitchen. Plugged them in, hooked them together. The r...

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival
I have the eye tube for the AM band "somewhat" working. It will at least twitch when I hit a strong station. My thinking at this point is that an alignment may be in order. I run the two 6BA6's and the one 6BE6 on the tube tester to make sure they are good, then try an alignment.

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival
I won't spend the money on a Fluke. I had one of those when I was wrenching. I wasn't impressed. I had the Snap-on guy send it in three times to have it repaired. They never did get it right. It's only redeeming value was that the case was cushioned, so it wouldn't hurt it if I dropped it onto a con...

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival
I started running the resistance chart on this receiver this afternoon. So far, all I found was some 470K ohm resistors that had drifted, one of which was in the plate circuit of the 6FG6 eye tube for the AM band. I've just gotten started, so I may find other resistors that are out of tolerance. I n...

Maybe we can impose on Mr. Mogul to post the entire schematic. Your comment has piqued my curiosity......

The 1 1/2" length of #26 wire is drawn as a fuse. But what circuit does it protect? And, is that transformer a power transformer or an isolation transformer?
