Re: Not sure the brand

I'd say this is a solid state device. If it was RCA, wouldn't there be a New Vista or a Victrola badge on the underside of the lid? The knobs look GE-ish to me, but that's as far out on the limb as I care to go..... ;) ;)

Re: Time to replace my phone....

I had over 10,000 minutes accumulated that I am going to lose when my TracFone died. TracFone tells me that my phone is not recognized anymore, whatever that means. It is a Samsung Galaxy that I have had seven years. I always liked the phone. The downside to TracFone is that their phones are "b...

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival

As I get older, I find my hearing is such that it takes more treble to make music "bright" enough to suit me. My stepdad got me to running the bass full on, said that full bass could make a "skinny" amplifier sound better, with more full frequencies and stronger bass. This receiv...

Re: Time to replace my phone....

There was a couple in the T-Mobile store buying their 8-year-old son a $1700 cellphone. All the latest whiz-bang features. ;) ;)

Re: Harmon-Kardon TA 230 Stereo Festival

I have been running this receiver all weekend. I'm using Fisher STV-880 speakers with 15" woofers that the guys on ARF panned pretty hard back when I got them years ago. I find them quite satisfactory when used with this fairly low-power receiver. I am using my Accurian turntable with the Stant...

Re: Time to replace my phone....

You can buy a house or get a divorce quicker than you can sign up for cellphone service. What a horrible, drawn out, dramatic procedure. People put more value on a stupid appliance than they do a heartbeat! They want to know every little detail. They want to play video games and play movies. Those o...

Re: My car is in the shop.....

Apparently, the Harrison Division of GM does not exist. I'm told my Mini uses the same compressor as a Chevrolet, only the Mini is built by BMW and they use a unique-pattern serpentine belt, so the pulley is different on my car than on a Chevrolet. I'm also told that the days of the compressor outla...

Re: Time to replace my phone....

If I didn't have the forum, I would have a flip phone. I need the capabilities of the smart phone, although I barely use any of what it can do. The phones TracFone sell you are not very full-featured. They have a minimum of everything. I think I want to upgrade from that just a bit. Cox and T-Mobile...

My car is in the shop.....

About a month ago, I took my Mini into a local shop we have used before to get the oil changed and have them look at the AC. It wasn't cooling like I thought it should be. I figured a top off of refrigerant and it would be back to normal. They checked it out, then gave me the bad news. The compresso...

Time to replace my phone....

First of all, let me say, lest there be any doubt, that I DESPISE a cell phone with every fiber of my being. That said, and since there are few to no pay phones anymore, and since both my wife and I have a disability that may necessitate rapid communication, we both have cell phones. Hers is a T-Mob...

Re: It's raining....

I got a half inch here, which is a lot of rain for this part of the country. It's fairly humid here, 92 degrees which is really cool for this time of year. It sure was good to get a shower..... :D :D

It's raining....

Rain is a big deal out here in the desert. We are currently experiencing the most rain we have had at one time since probably 2020. The rain is hitting the window in the den like it was hail. We got a wall of dust before the rain, so it rained mud for a time. They are predicting a heavier-than-norma...

Re: Capehart 35P7

The tube chart that was posted in blurry to my eyes, but I'm betting that one of the octal tubes being called 6V6's is actually a rectifier, probably a 5Y3GT. The miniature tubes at the top are in the front end, the two metal tubes are in the IF strip and the two on the right edge of the chassis are...

Re: Chat GTP

Looks like a cute project, Elton. You certainly have the woodworking skills required. What kind of electronics were you thinking about using? One of Magnavox's "200 series" tuners and a 93-series amp with 15" woofers would be killer. Even the single-ended amp like is in some of the GE...

Re: Hello from Southwest VA.

Here is the topic where I redid some radio cabinets. The big RCA bakelite radio arrived via ebay in several pieces. The Zenith was just busted, straight break, minimal chipping. The old white Bendix had a chunk out above the dial and one corner was broken off. The gray Truetone cabinet was in the be...

Re: Tick Diseases

We had a border collie on the farm when I was a kid. He had longer, shaggy hair and he got full of cockleburrs, but I don't remember any ticks. We used to set him down, then pick the burrs out of his hair without pulling on it and hurting him. We had a wild blackberry patch down on the "Monon 4...

Re: Hello from Southwest VA.

Welcome aboard from me as well! You have quite the collection. As far as the cracked cabinet on your little GE 400, those can be repaired then repainted, using auto body filler, (Bondo) and glazing putty. If there are chunks missing you can use that metallic HVAC tape to make a form, then fill that ...
