You sent me back down the rabbit hole with that comment. Eventually I reached the 1948 list. It's interesting--the town I grew up in, Bay City, shows an FM station for the local AM broadcaster but it did not actually show up until later. I recall my uncle, a ham radio operator, visiting and bringing a basic Packard-Bell tuner, saying to my Dad, "Here, you can listen to that new FM station." That was about 1960, I'm guessing.

The tuner is basic--a two-gang tuning cap and a bunch of IF or limiting transformers. It ought to work better than it does. I've still got it.

Thanks for posting, I liked the 1948 article on FM stations in US then. You will recognize some as legacy AM stations that simulcast on FM.
